Very soon the aircraft of the D-Day Squadron will again grace the skies over Europe as they endeavor to support events surrounding the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion and the 75th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift.  Before the aircraft of the D-Day Squadron that are based in the United States make the long journey overseas to join up with their European counterparts, they will spend a week at Waterbury-Oxford Airport (KOXC) in Oxford, Connecticut, home of the D-Day Squadron. The primary focus of this 2024 Legacy Tour Kickoff Week is to ensure all of the aircraft and staff are mission-ready through training, safety meetings, mission run-throughs, and formation practice.

But, for one day the D-Day Squadron will give the public the opportunity to see the five U.S. based aircraft participating in the Kickoff Week. The Public Day will take place on Thursday, May  16, 10am to 4pm.  Visitors will have a chance to see all five of the transport aircraft in person and chat with pilots, crew, and staff of the D-Day Squadron as they prepare for this momentous occasion.  As an added benefit to the day, the D-Day Squadron plans to do a short formation flight during the day so that the public can see these beautiful aircraft in flight.  Aircraft participating in the Kickoff Week are the C-47 “Placid Lassie” ( N74589) – Tunison Foundation, the C-47 “That’s All, Brother” ( N47TB) – Commemorative Air Force Centex Wing, the R4D “READY-4-DUTY” (151ZE) – Commemorative Air Force Dallas – Ft. Worth Wing, the C-53 “Spirit of Douglas” (N8336C) – Private Owner, and the DC-3 “Western Air” Western Airlines Inc.
