Friday photo: Boeing 737 shadow
Air Facts Journal
The view: Shadow of my B-737 descending into an overcast layer.
The pilot: Bob Miller, Texas
The airplane: Boeing 737-700
The mission: Afternoon flight from St Louis to Philadelphia on a typical multiple leg airline day.
The memory: This occurred on my last flight on day two of a three-day trip. We were beginning a descent into a lower overcast with the late afternoon sun slightly behind and on the right side. I happened to look out the left side window and was amazed to see the airplane’s shadow perfectly silhouetted against the cloud deck. And the multiple round rainbows centered on the 737 nose! We flew as if we were in a two ship formation with our shadow as lead. We followed our shadow all the way until we entered the could deck with the image becoming larger and closer the nearer we came to the clouds.
